The Grand Opening of Dogtown Realty is celebrated with the art of surfer Michael Torquato deNicola on Saturday, January 25, 2014, starting at 7pm. Dogtown Realty was previously located in Venice and is now in its brand new Santa Monica location at 2009 Main Street by owner, Assaf Raz. He also owns Dogtown Coffee a few doors away on Main Street.

Surfer/Artist Michael Torquato deNicola created a beautiful mural depicting Santa Monica/ Venice beach life on the interior of Dogtown Realty.  The My Venice Life Team met up with Michael last week at Photo LA in Los Angeles, seen in a photo with My Venice Life Editor, Janet Gervers and Art Collector, Caroline Kim at the Gala VIP Reception.

My Venice Life got in touch with Assaf Raz this week and asked him for more information on Dogtown Realty and a brief history of the name Dogtown.  This is what he told My Venice Life:

Why Dogtown?

Dogtown was the nickname given to the Pacific Ocean Park (POP) area during
the seventies and later on the name referred to most of South Santa
Monica/Venice. The area bred a whole generation of extreme skaters
(Z-Boys), surfers, artists (The Doors) and our brokerage is located within
the historical Zephyr building, where it all began.

Dogtown Realty, Inc. was the inspiration of Assaf Raz. Later on, Jeff F.
Konecke joined in the early 2000’s to form a real estate team within
Venice Properties. In 2009 the team moved to Abbot Kinney Real Estate. In
2013, an opportunity came about to lease a space in the famous building
and a decision was made to become independent and to give the team a home
at last.
