Relay for Life Mar Vista Honors Bill Rosendahl
Last Saturday, August 16, 2014, Relay for Life, Mar Vista honored former Councilman Bill Rosendahl, a cancer survivor plus all the other survivors and their supporters at the event, which took place at the Mar Vista Recreation Center. Also in attendance and the event were Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilman Mike Bonin. Both men spoke at the event about how cancer has touched their lives.
The event was inspiring with a celebratory atmosphere as Relay for Life teams walked around the field on a very hot day, which was kicked off with a Relay for Life banner held up by team members and joined by the Mayor Eric Garcetti, Bill Rosendahl, Mike Bonin and Mark Antonio Grant, also a cancer survivor, who was on Rosendahl’s staff.
The was a crowd with local fire fighters and police, that enjoyed the live music by bands Westspiders and Core with a nice segue of outdoor yoga under the shade of a big tree, led by Laura Fuller, who teaches at The Moving Joint. The class was a real highlight for this blogger, who lost her Mother to cancer, that combined a healthy way to get in shape and fight cancer plus connect with people in the class.
There were booths from each team, along with healthy drinks and snacks at the American Cancer Society booth, in addition to a fun watermelon eating contest. The sole woman in the contest was the winner. Asley, one of the event organizers reminded us all that watermelon is a cancer prevention food. It tastes great so eat up!
