It’s that time of year when Mardi Gras is celebrated in Venice Beach- yes, it’s not just in New Orleans! There’s a festive King’s Ball before Mardi Gras to honor the King and Queen of Mardi Gras, plus there’s live music and spoken word performances in Venice and Santa Monica this week!

The leaders of the Windward Krewe will be crowned at this lively event with music from Miss Jessica & The Sugar Shack Attack from 7:30-11:00pm.

Sunday: Screening of  Children of the Stars at Beyond Baroque at 8:30 pm, plus live music, poetry and experimental films (Rag’n’Bones) at 7:00pm – ends at 10:00pm. Children of the Stars is an engaging documentary tells the strange but (allegedly) true story of a UFO contactee group who relive their past lives on other planets by making their own science fiction films. 681 Venice Blvd,  Venice CA 90291

    The luckiest people in the world experienced the crowning of the ultimate king and queen of Venice. Unfortunately, I could not be in that number. Yet, it lives so hard in my being. Hurray for Theo and Toddley! Long, long may they live!
