Jazz Funk Fest Sat 7-10pm at Unurban:
Rex Butters, Paulie Dee, Gerry Fialka, Tryg Hanson & Musical Guests
The Jazz Funk Fest is on Saturday, June 28 7-10, at the Unurban in Santa Monica, featuring spoken word music mashup of Venice and Santa Monica talent, including: Tryg Hanson, Rex Butters, Gerry Fialka, Paulie Dee, etc harkening back to the beat poet days.
The show starts promptly at 7pm (for real) and features Tryg Hanson and Rex Butters for an hour with their thought provoking words that tantalize, tease and amuse, backed up by Black Shoe Polish.
Starting at 8pm is the musical portion of the show with Black Shoe Polish, started in Venice by Gerry Fialka, back in the Sponto days! The Jazz Collective also includes musician/singer Paulie Dee, followed by the Eric Ahlberg Jazz Workshop, also featuring Freddy Ginns on keyboards and vocals.
The UnUrban is a funky cafe in Santa Monica, that would be perfectly at home in Venice. The performances are in the back room and and free! My Venice Life recommends getting there early to order a coffee or chai and some eats; the Editor loves the chili too! So eat up, drink and soak in some music and words!
