Return of It Came From Venice! March 1-15 Art, Music & More
Sponto Gallery at 9 Dudley Av
Events are from March 1-15 recently updated on March 5.
The Return of It Came from Venice! is a unique tribute to Sponto (Mrk Kornfeld), a Venice Legend who was a true supporter of the arts community here. This all out event combines visual art, music and spoken word over a period of three weekends in March with the Opening Reception on Saturday, March 1, 2014, 6-10pm, Sponto Gallery, 9 Dudley Ave, Venice CA 90291.
The Venice event takes place at the original Sponto Gallery that was run for 20 years by the late Mark “Sponto” Kornfeld and the event programmed by Venice Local Gerry Fialka a dear friend of Sponto. Note the location has combined two spaces so the address is now 9 Dudley Ave (instead of 7 Dudley Ave for those that have the address imprinted in their memories).
There are 3, yes that’s right – 3 major events plus a few more additions over a duration of 3 weeks in March, each with a different flavor, yet all with the common thread of a sense of community in Venice that Sponto always encouraged. There were three group art shows entitled, “It Came From Venice” held at Sponto Gallery over the past 20 years while Sponto ran the gallery. Last year there was similar tribute event at the original Sponto Gallery, attended by hundreds, and reminiscent of the “old Venice” spirit that permeated just a few years back. Local art, music and spoken word were a part of it, in the tradition of the Venice West Cafe (pre-Sponto days), the hangout of the original beat poets.
Back to that lovin’ feeling starting this weekend with an art, music and poetry mashup! This will be an all out party!
