Jazz Funk Fest: In the tradition of the Venice West Cafe (the legendary Beat hang-out at 7 Dudley Ave, aka Sponto Gallery from 1984-2008), local Venice musicians will celebrate the rebellious liberation of tuneful creativity. 7pm: Rag’n’Bones (live poetry with improv jazz) with Tryg Hanson, 7:45pm BLACK SHOE POLISH: hear words that should never be said colliding with notes that should never be played. 7 Dudley Cinema presents: NEGLECTED CINEMA – Curator Lance Richter screens rare 16mm films that are marginalized, yet very worthy of seeing, including art, music, educational, travelogues, experimental, documentary and more. Experience the phenomenon of viewing celluloid in all its splendor, depth and reel color.

Sunday April 27
7 Dudley Cinema screens: Retrospective of Acclaimed Filmmaker Kent Hayward
Hayward’s thoughtful, revealing films and a Q&A with the filmmaker on April 27 – series curated by Gerry Fialka. A brief reception will precede and follow the screening and showcase additional installation artwork. Hayward’s work has been screened at over 25 festivals, including Dances with Films, DocuWest, New Filmmakers and Film Independent’s Cinema Lounge. The Los Angeles Times’ Kevin Thomas declared Hayward’s film Homestead Artifact “deeply affecting… Hayward has succeeded beautifully.” Sunset to Sunset, Homestead Artifact, August and others will be screened.
Hayward says, “My films aim to tell big stories through small details. Sometimes I find metaphors in really personal moments, sometimes in a cutaway shot or some trivial incident.”

Westminster Arts Club Art & Music Showcase. Featuring, Venice guitarist Michael Jost and musical guests plus the legendary Golden Buddha perform.
